An industrial electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is an industrial air filtration system that removes particles from the air by the application of electrostatic charges. ESPs use a direct current (DC) corona discharge to apply electrostatic charges to airborne particles in a gas stream. As air travels through the unit these particles get charged and collecting plates draw them with efficiency surpassing 99% for particles larger than 1 µm and 95% for particles less than 0.1 µm. There they are trapped. ESPs are frequently employed in sectors like steel mills & power plants as well as cement manufacturing (to control kiln emissions). The reason is that the ESP electrostatic precipitator is efficient in eliminating big particles like smoke, dust, and pollen with minimal energy consumption. The energy consumption ranges (typically 0.5 – 1.5 kWh/1000 m³ treated gas).
